In this guide, we’ll explore the benefits, how to choose the perfect colorful wall art for your living room, along with some stunning fine art prints, and how to style them. So let’s get into it!
Do you know how much influence your surroundings have on your mind, your mood and your day-to-day thoughts? It’s the reason so many love making vision boards and putting them everywhere.
But not everyone want a collage, a busy or very defined imagery in their homes. This is where bright and colorful wall art comes in – they boost your mood in the same way, they remind your of what you love, all while also being a piece of art.
If you want to walk into your living room and be reminded of what you value and dream of: a colorful life, travel, seeing sunsets, living bold yet embracing a slow life.. Then our art is perfect for you.
There are many variables to choosing the right artwork for your living room. In the end, the one that feels right is the right one. If you need some steps to start choosing, this is a good place to start:
What mood do you want to stimulate in your home, and what color goes with that?
Some examples of colorful wall art with specific colors:
Although we absolutely love colors here at studio Solaria, that’s not all that matters. The subject and well, the vibe, matter just as much.
Do you want your prints to focus on water? The sea, the ocean, rivers.. Do you want it to focus on the summery beach life? Southern European charm? The great outdoors?
These are just some examples of focus points we have here, at studio Solaria. Every artist, every art shop, will have their own kinds of subjects to choose from. If you know what kind imagery you want to focus on beforehand, this can help. But personally, just browsing and seeing what catches your eye will always be my favorite way of finding artwork to hang on my walls.
What do we mean by choosing the right vibe? Well, do you want you colorful wall art to be soothing, to be energizing, to be dreamy?
Knowing what ‘vibe’ you want in your home, in your living room, and what goes with your décor, is essential. It won’t be the first filter you have, but before you hit ‘buy’ on your new art – make sure it has the vibe you were going for.
Size matters. Especially when it comes to decorating your home with art. You want your new artwork to feel natural in your living room, like an extension of your already existing décor. And for that, you need the right size.
Step one is deciding where the art will live. Is it going to be a stand-alone piece? Or will it be part of a gallery wall? Is it going to hang behind your couch, at your dinner table or stand on your credenza?
Once you’ve determined where it should go, I’d recommend getting a piece of paper in the size you’re thinking of and placing it there. Even if that means sticky-taping a few pieces of paper together.
The rule of thumb here is; that bigger is better. If you add a lot of small things to your décor, it will quickly feel messy and cluttered. Going for a statement piece, on the other hand, will add personality and style. That statement piece can be one print or a full gallery wall.
With all these tips in mind, these are the prints I’d recommend you consider if you want to add colorful art to your living room:
As a shop that prides itself in selling gallery-grade photo art prints, we of course love our own prints. But we know not everyone is looking for the same style, the same colors and the same vibes. So here are our tips when it comes to finding high-quality art prints:
First up is paper. Make sure the paper that is used is of good quality – this will be a major factor in how well the print will sustain time. If the shop doesn’t say what paper they use, I would recommend you ask.
I’d say, stay clear of paper lighter than 200 gsm, as it is easy to tear or be damaged, and won’t stand the test of time. This is why at studio Solaria all prints are printed on 240gsm, a thick paper type that will stay beautiful.
There are three main finishes when it comes to colorful photo prints: matte, lustre and glossy. Glossy will make your photography art smooth and shinier: a traditional finish for photoprints and definitely beautiful, but keep in mind that the prints will also reflect more.
Matte on the other hand, is more commonly used in other form of art prints. It might dull the colors but in return give you a very clean, non-reflecting and unique finish.
Lustre lies between the two. With a subtle gloss and minimal reflection it really has the best of both worlds. Not to forget it has great color-depth, unlike matte. Our colorful wall art at MelCaptures therefor has a lutre finish with a satin look. Our prints have a subtle pearl-like texture to support deeper color saturation and a semi-gloss look.
This is where you go back to the actual paper used, the ink, and all the other details we have just gone over.
Here at studio Solaria we take sustainability serious. Our whole model is based around this: by printing to order we make sure we never have left-over stock or throw away extra prints. Besides this, our colorful prints are printed as close to the final destination as possible to ensure the least amount of shipping.
If you are looking for wall art in your living room, you might want to look for a sustainable shop. A few things to look for:
Most terms like gallery-grade, high-quality, and museum-grade aren’t protected. Still, they might mean something if the rest of the details match up.
Coming across any of these terms (which we also use) shouldn’t be your whole research into the promised quality a photo print shop has, but it can be a start. It shows the shop takes quality seriously, but they should have information to back this up.
So now you know why colorful wall art is a game-changer, how to choose the right art piece, and what to focus on when looking for prints for your living room. A colorful print isn’t just décor – it’s a way to express yourself and bring joy into your space. I hope I’ve made that journey a little bit easier and more joyful for you.
